The Josephine is an 1880 3 Story Hotel building Union Springs Alabama For Sale. 

Completed in 1880 for Dr. Robert A. Fleming who in turn named it for his wife Laura Josephine Cowan Fleming (daughter of Dr. William L. Cowan).  Read our blogspot for more at: ohthatjosephine.blogspot.com.  The Hotel building has been in continuous use since 1880. There have been numerous businesses on the premises over the years. The building is a little over 17,000 sq ft and has a total of 32 rooms on the 2nd & 3rd floors. It has skylights that provided natural lighting for the large hallways on both upper floors.

The hotel has been called the Josephine, Drummer, and later the Commercial Hotel. 

There are 3 double door entrances into the 3 main areas of the 1st floor. Each of these entrances have a metal entrance plate with the following on them: Josephine Hotel 1880.  Records of the hotel patrons using the 2nd & 3rd floors exist through the 1970’s. There are pics of the hotel with its 2nd floor balcony (taken down in 1980's) to see the full potential of a more complete restoration.  The main floor has been in use as a restaurant, museum, art and ice cream shoppe until recently.

We have had an Ice Cream Sandwich Shop there for several years (currently for events only - new kitchen/equipment available).  The ground floor has been renovated with new wiring and several bathrooms to accommdate groups.  We have also hosted 'GHOST" events occattionaly and are in the book Haunted Alabama Black Belt by David Higdom.  The property is located in a small historical town of Union Springs, Alabama surrounded by major metros (Montgomery, Auburn/Opeliks, Troy and Eufaula).  We are 2 hours from Atlanta, Birmingham or Dothan.  Bones appear to be good - most renovation has been on the main floor; this is a 3 story building.  Historical home could also be available
